Childcare – Asthma and Anaphylaxis  combined training unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance and provide advance training in the use of auto injectors for the treatment of anaphylaxis and the advance treatments associated with Asthma. This is a combine course cover both Asthma and Anaphylaxis.All schools and childcare providers are required to have staff trained in Asthma Management and Anaphylaxis Awareness, ensuring a trained First Aider is immediately available at all times. Family Day Care providers ensure that all staff members are certified in both Asthma and Anaphylaxis. Does your employment require certification? We run our classes at the CWA hall, 159 Bettington Street, Merriwa NSW 2329 or in the workplace

Course Duration (face to face)

  • Face to Face – 6 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Blended delivery – 3 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1 hours self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
  • Refresher training – 3 hours (minimum) – with the addition of 1 hours self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.


Work Placement Arrangements
No work placement will be required as part of this course.

Cost: $88 per person

Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

What happens at the course?

Assessment Activities
Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

    • Performance tasks – The assessor will observe you demonstrating the following:
      • Recognise and treat asthma using a blue/grey reliever with and without a spacer
      • Report an asthma incident to relevant authorities and parent/carer
      • Conduct a risk assessment and make recommendations for controls to help manage asthma and anaphylaxis in the workplace
      • Provide first aid treatment for anaphylaxis
      • Follow ASCIA Action Plans and the workplace procedures
      • Position a casualty and administer adrenaline using an auto injector
      • Seek help and contact emergency services
      • Handover the casualty to emergency services
      • Fulfill reporting requirements – parent/carer, workplace forms etc.
    • Theory assessment
      • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. You must complete all assessment questions.
